Colombia is a country with growing levels of overweight and obesity and related noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. The increase in overweight and obesity has been accompanied by a diet characterized by high levels of sugar-sweetened beverages and other foods high in nutrients of concern (e.g., high in added sugar, added sodium, or added saturated fat). This study surveyed consumers’ reactions to different designs of possible warning labels, and the results suggest that an octagon warning similar to the one used in Chile or Peru would have the most impact on Colombian consumers. Colombian policymakers should consider the octagon warning as part of a front-of-package labeling policy to help consumers identify and reduce consumption of foods and drinks high in nutrients of concern.
