Board of Trustees

Vital Strategies’ governing board

Message from our Chairperson

Louis James de Viel Castel
Chairperson

Vital Strategies’ work is critical for these times. While Vital continues to respond to the COVID pandemic, we take a long view on health that is rooted in questions like: How can we ensure that leaders have the right information they need to make decisions? How can we build public trust and support for policies that we know improve health? How can civil society contribute to needed policy changes? How can we work in a coordinated way with cities and countries to help them learn from each other’s mistakes and successes? And seeking answers and solutions to these kinds of questions are at the heart of what Vital brings to its collaborations with leaders around the globe.

Vital works in local partnership in more than 70 countries and brings our voice and experience to global health policymaking arenas. We focus on five areas: noncommunicable diseases, urban health, environmental health and climate change, injury prevention and public health systems strengthening. Layered on this is a commitment to equity and seeking out those who have been historically underserved.

The Vital Strategies Board of Trustees appreciates the organization’s continued commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of its operations and governance. In keeping with our mission, we recognize diversity, equity and inclusion not only as important social goals but also as an important public health issue.

I could not be prouder to be a part of an organization with the vision and mission to carry this work forward.
