Public Attitudes Towards Alcohol Policy: Colombia

Nearly all Colombians (98%) say alcohol is a problem, with top concerns including violence, road crashes, and health impacts. Most find alcohol easy to buy and inexpensive, while only 27% believe current laws protect people from harm. Parents are especially worried about youth, pointing to weak enforcement of age limits and the influence of advertising.

There is strong support for government action: 75% say reducing alcohol harms is the government’s responsibility, and a majority back higher taxes—particularly if revenue funds education, health care, or social programs. Many also want greater accountability from alcohol companies for the harms caused.
