New Vital Strategies Office in Addis Ababa Deepens Commitment to Strengthening Ethiopia’s Public Health Systems

Feb 10, 2021 (New York, NY) — Vital Strategies, a leading global health organization which works with governments to design solutions to some of the world’s most challenging health problems, today announced the opening of a new office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Ethiopia joins Vital Strategies network of global offices which includes Jinan, New York City, Paris, São Paulo, and Singapore.  As a trusted partner of governments and civil society around the globe, Vital Strategies has managed $131 million in worldwide programs touching more than 73 countries, with the goal of supporting governments rapidly adopt life-saving interventions and policies. The Ethiopia office will focus on responding to COVID-19 response, improving cardiovascular health, preventing road injury and supporting civil registration and vital statistics, among other initiatives. The expansion will allow the organization to enhance its engagement with governments, change-makers and advocates with deep local knowledge to strengthen public health systems by designing and supporting scalable solutions to leading causes of death, disease and injury.

Dawit Bisrat is the director of Vital Strategies’ Ethiopia office where he leads the Resolve to Save Lives Cardiovascular Health Initiative, Prevent Epidemics, and Data for Health Initiative teams. He also leads Vital Strategies’ effort to support the government of Ethiopia’s response to COVID-19. Dawit is a public health and health care leadership expert with more than 10 years of international experience in the field.
