In 2021, 151 people lost their lives in 144 fatal crashes in the city of Campinas: 78 (52%) on urban roads and 73 (48%) on highways in the urban perimeter. To address this, Campinas Secretariat for Transportation, through the city traffic agency (EMDEC), launched the mass media campaign Slow Down—Life Goes By Fast, addressing the dangers of speeding over the limit allowed on the roads. The campaign video has two testimonials with real people. One with Dr. Roger Vieira Horvat, medical emergency service coordinator for six years, and one with Marcela Batista, who talks about the loss of her brother Fábio in a motorcycle crash.
