One life per hour could be saved if Brazilians reduce their alcohol consumption by 20%

If the Brazilian population reduces its alcohol consumption by 20%, 10,400 deaths could be prevented each year. This is equivalent to preventing one death per hour in the country, according to the study “Estimating the Impact of Different Scenarios for Reducing Alcohol Consumption in Brazil.”

This study estimates the health and economic impact of reducing alcohol consumption in Brazil, showing that a 10–20% reduction could prevent 4,600–10,400 deaths annually and save up to R$2.1 billion in productivity losses.
