Cities are drivers of public health and over the past year have mounted a remarkable COVID-19 response. The Partnership for Healthy Cities—supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies in collaboration with the World Health Organization and Vital Strategies—held a special VitalTalks event on how cities are developing and implementing equitable policies and practices to safeguard health and rebuild stronger health, social and economic systems.
The event included a discussion moderated by Hannah Vaughan Jones, journalist and presenter at CNN International, with Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago, United States and Intendant Carolina Cosse of Montevideo, Uruguay. Rounding out the discussion were remarks from Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization; Michael R. Bloomberg, WHO Global Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries, 108th mayor of New York City and Founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies; and José Luis Castro, President and CEO of Vital Strategies.
