After more than nine years of leadership and service, Wallace D’Souza, Chief Financial and Administration Officer at Vital Strategies, will retire in early September, leaving a legacy of financial stewardship and institutional leadership.
Since joining Vital Strategies in 2017 as Chief Financial Officer, Wallace has played a central role in strengthening the organization as it expanded its global reach and impact. He helped build the financial and operational foundation that enabled Vital Strategies to grow, deepen partnerships with governments around the world, and advance its mission to improve public health.
In 2022, Wallace became Chief Financial and Administration Officer, expanding his leadership to include Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations, and Business Development. During his tenure, he helped modernize the organization’s finance and administrative functions, strengthened governance and enterprise systems, and built a resilient operational platform supporting more than 300 colleagues working across more than 60 countries. He also served as a trusted partner to the Board of Directors, supporting its Finance and Audit Committees, and as Interim CEO during a pivotal leadership transition.
Before joining Vital Strategies, Wallace held senior financial leadership positions at Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Planned Parenthood Global, and the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative.
Born in Kenya and raised in Kenya and India before building his career in the United States, Wallace brought a global perspective that reflected the international nature of Vital Strategies’ work and partnerships.

Reflecting on his retirement, Wallace said:

It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to work alongside such talented colleagues, and I will always cherish the experiences we shared and the friendships we built. Thank you for making the past nine years among the most rewarding of my career.”
Wallace’s impact on Vital Strategies extends far beyond finance and administration. Over more than nine years, he helped shape the organization into what it is today – building the systems, financial strength, and culture of accountability that underpin Vital Strategies’ work. His steady leadership and trusted counsel have left an enduring mark on the organization, and the foundation he helped build will continue to support its work for years to come.
