José Luis Castro, Op-Ed, Think Global Health: Covid-19 and Tobacco: Unmasking the Smoke Screen

“This Sunday, on World No Tobacco Day, it is worth reminding ourselves how we can better address this NCD epidemic,” wrote José Luis Castro, President and CEO of Vital Strategies and Princess Dina Mired of Jordan in an op-ed on ThinkGlobalHealth. “Tobacco alone is on track to kill one billion people this century if we don’t intervene.”

The burden of COVID-19 has been felt globally, devastating people and health systems around the world. Governments now face a pandemic exacerbated by tobacco use and the illnesses tobacco is already linked to, including all four of the most common noncommunicable diseases: cancer, heart disease, lung disease and diabetes.
