Vital Strategies has joined the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the National Administrative Department of Statistics in launching the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Initiative in Colombia.

Vital Strategies has responded to the announcement from Philip Morris International Inc (PMI) that it intends to set up a “Foundation for a Smoke-Free World” in 2018.

The initiative aims to save more than 100 million lives by preventing heart attacks and strokes and will help countries close life-threatening gaps in epidemic preparedness and response. It will be implemented by a team of global health experts at Vital Strategies, a New York-based global health organization that works in more than 60 countries.

The UN Global Compact announced their decision saying tobacco products are fundamentally misaligned with its commitment to advancing action towards the 2030 Agenda’s Sustainable Development Goal related to health.
