Data Systems and Public Health Intelligence
We support governments and civil society partners to strengthen surveillance systems, build local data capacity and apply AI and digital tools to data collection. This evidence anchors policy and program decisions in the lived reality of populations.
This work spans the civil registration and vital statistics systems that count births and deaths, the cancer registries that catch disease earlier, and a Data to Policy program that turns findings into government action. We also administer the Bloomberg Philanthropies Data for Health Global Grants Program that directly funds and provides technical support to competitively selected national projects.
Policy Solutions
We support governments to identify priorities, design cost-effective policies and sustain them through the policy processes it takes to pass and defend them. This work has secured food warning labels, health taxes and smoke-free laws covering millions of people.
This work spans the legal and regulatory analysis that shapes a policy, the political mapping that builds momentum to pass it, and the economic modeling that proves it’s worth defending. Our Policy Accelerator approach prepares partners to fast-track policy development and adoption, and has helped 70+ cities secure 30+ lifesaving policies since 2017.
Strategic Communication and Advocacy
We support governments and civil society to treat strategic communication as a core public health competency. This builds the public trust and political will that turn evidence into action, and action into policy that lasts.
Our work spans the audience research and message testing that comes out of our Behavioral Insights Lab, the AI-powered digital media monitoring from our Canary system to counter harmful marketing, and the campaigns our Vital Strategies Media Studio builds to shift public opinion and behavior at scale.
