In February 2022, Vital Strategies and China CDC, with the endorsement of the National Health Commission, launched a new national anti-cigarette gift giving campaign to increase knowledge of the harms of smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke and to actively discourage the practice of giving cigarettes as gifts to family and friends for Chinese New Year.
This public service announcement “Giving Cigarettes Is Giving Harm” ran on television, while an accompanying campaign ran on social media, from January through February 2022.
