Supporting the Sustainable Implementation of Tobacco Control Policies
Governments must implement and enforce tobacco control laws to achieve their intended impact. Without strong compliance, people are not protected from the harms of tobacco.
Vital Strategies partners with governments to achieve and sustain high levels of compliance with tobacco control laws. Our technical support and financial assistance help our partners build sustainable implementation mechanisms, strengthen enforcement, and monitor and evaluate progress. Our strategic communication campaigns generate public pressure on policymakers to enforce tobacco control policies and protect communities from the harms of tobacco.
We support tobacco control implementation at the national and subnational levels. Our Global Implementation Program provides targeted support to over 30 cities and seven states and provinces across Indonesia, India, Pakistan and Vietnam. Since the program launched in 2018, we have developed country-specific models, devised new assessment tools and trained over 34,000 stakeholders in tobacco control law enforcement.
Strengthening Compliance with Effective Measures to Reduce Tobacco Use
Our Global Implementation Program prioritizes three policy areas: smoke-free laws, bans on product display and tobacco advertising at points of sale and tobacco vendor licensing.
