Dr. Thomas Matte is the Vital Strategies’ Vice President for Environmental Health. Dr. Matte has more than 25 years of experience in environmental epidemiology, environmental health practice and policy development at the national and local level.
Prior to joining Vital Strategies, Dr. Matte served as Assistant Commissioner for Environmental Surveillance and Policy at New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene where he directed studies of air pollution, extreme weather and other urban environmental hazards and represented the Department in applying public health evidence to the City’s cross-sectoral sustainability and climate resilience initiatives. He previously served in the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and as a medical epidemiologist with CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. Tom holds a medical degree from Albany Medical College and a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health where he completed a residency in Occupational Medicine.
